Steve B. Ostby, 72, of Mt. Morris and Mikado, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, February 10, 2026 at Hurley Medical Center in Flint.

Born March 8, 1953 to Burt and Joyce (Jensema) Ostby in Detroit, he was raised in St. Clair Shores and graduated from South Lake High School in 1971. On September 20, 1986, he married Kathleen Baird in Swartz Creek. They were residents of Mt. Morris, and spent the summertime in Mikado. Steve retired after 40 years with General Motors. He was an accomplished athlete. At South Lake High School he earned All Metro and All Suburban Honors in football and baseball as recognized by the Detroit News and Detroit Free Press and he earned a scholarship to play football at Michigan Tech. His athletic career continued into adulthood as he had numerous 300 games and 800 series as a bowler including setting two house records in Flint. He played baseball in the Flint City West and Northeastern Michigan Baseball Leagues with Barton City, Mikado and Ossineke. He also helped start the Labor Day Baseball Tournament in Barton City. When he could no longer play baseball he became an avid golfer where he was a scratch handicap and most notably won the 2010 Flint City Senior Amateur Championship.

Steve is survived by his wife, Kathleen, six children: Shannon Ostby, Scott Ostby, Steven “Matt” (Caitlyn) Ostby, Kristine Cooper, Paul Ostby, and Jeffrey Ostby, Five grandchildren: (Brealynn, Brayden, Mason, Connor and Jaxson) and six siblings: (Lynda, Sandra, Craig, James, Richard and Karen)

Steve was a loving husband, father, a fierce competitor, coach and friend. He will be deeply missed.

A Memorial Service will be Sunday, March 8, 2026 at 4:00 PM at the Mikado Civic Center. Burial will be in Springport Cemetery in Harrisville. Arrangements were made through Gillies Funeral Home in Lincoln
