Ruth M. (Holmes) Johnston, 88, passed away Monday, October 9, 2023.
Born May 13, 1935 to Durwood and Janie (Fowler) LeCuyer in Lincoln, she was raised there. She was a longtime resident of Alpena, where she worked as a manager at Alpena Savings for 26 years, and volunteered at Alpena General Hospital. On May 5, 2005, she married Richard “Dick” Johnston in Alpena, and they were residents of Harrisville. Ruth enjoyed crafting, including ceramics, needlepoint, basket weaving, crochet, and quilting. She liked working in her garden, taking care of her flowers.
Ruth is survived by three sons, Brian (Rene) Holmes, Jeffrey (Louanne) Holmes, and Mark (Teena) Holmes, eight grandchildren, Christopher, Brianne, Courtney, Justin, Stephanie, Morgan, Mallory, and Ryan, six great grandchildren, Grace, Clara, Cameron, Hannah, Harper, and Miles, two step children, Kim Johnston, and Mike Johnston, her niece, Heidi (Leonard) Morang, her nephew, Troy (Julie) LeCuyer, and her special cousin, Mary Dean. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dick, on July 7, 2020, her grandson, Eric Holmes, and her brother, Charles LeCuyer.
Ruth is at Gillies Funeral Home in Lincoln, where visitation will take place on Saturday, October 14, 2023, from 2:00 PM until 5:00 PM. Visitation will continue at the funeral home on Sunday, October 15, from 10:00 AM until the funeral service at 11:00 AM. Burial will be in Twin Lakes Cemetery, Lincoln. Memorial donations are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association.
