Ronald R. Kossa

January 2, 1937 — January 20, 2022

Ronald Kossa, 85, of Lincoln passed peacefully at home with his children by his side on January 20, 2022. Ron was born on January 2, 1937, to Frank and Irene Kosa in Inkster, Michigan. As a young boy Ron developed a love of animals as he grew up on his family farm. He especially enjoyed spending time with his pet swine, Piggy Boy. Throughout his life he would enjoy many pets while fostering a sense of love and respect for animals in his children.

After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where he worked as an aircraft mechanic, specifically on the F4 Phantom fighter’s electrical systems. He was a skilled professional at his job, and quickly earned the rank of Master Sergeant.  In 1958 he married Mary Ellen LeCuyer, and the two traveled and lived throughout the United States and Japan. Ron courageously served his country during both the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War, retiring from a 20-year career in 1975. After retirement he and Mary established their family in Lincoln so their children could have roots and be surrounded by family.  Ron was an avid sportsman and excelled in competitive skeet shooting earning the 1972 Tactical Air Command National Skeet Championship breaking 399 out of 400 targets. He shot in competitions nationwide and was often called a ‘Sand Bagger’ winning when he wasn’t predicted to. This was an interest that began in the military and continued throughout his life winning more championships in his 60’s and 70’s. He was a member of the Lost Lake Woods Skeet Club and participated in tournaments held by gun clubs throughout the state.  Ron also enjoyed the beauty of Northern MI and fishing and hunting with his children and grandchildren. Adding his passion for R/C airplanes, he was a busy guy.  Ron’s philosophy about life was” that you had to go hard until you couldn't go anymore.”  He lived this philosophy until the end by rarely letting the dust settle under his feet. In his Golden Years he enjoyed time with his family, watching wildlife, feeding his birds, growing tomatoes, driving to visit friends, and trips to the casino.

He is survived by his daughter, Michelle (Bob) Magee; his son, Michael (Kelly) Kossa; his granddaughter, Jesica (Nick) Bassett; his grandson, Jacob Kossa; his brother, David

(Sharon) Kosa; his sister, Amy Polakowski; his sister-in-law, June LeCuyer; his dear friends, Karen Bond, and Jackie Temple; his feline companion, Tiger; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary in 2016.  Cremation arrangements are being handled through Gillies Funeral Home in Lincoln.  Ron will be remembered privately by his family in accordance with his wishes. Burial will take place at St. Anne’s catholic cemetery in the spring. Memorial contributions can be made to the Mikado Goodfellows or any Humane Society.
