Listen to Obituary

Ronald Allen Harmon, 74, of Mikado, Michigan, passed away peacefully at his home on October 1, 2025, after a brief altercation with pancreatic cancer. Born April 9, 1951, in Harrisville to John and Donelda (Kelly) Harmon, Ron was a lifelong resident of the area. He lived a life of adventure and hard work. He loved spending time outdoors, especially hunting, fishing and camping. He was known for his competitiveness and his need for speed. Whether snowmobiling or racing muscle cars; playing pool or horseshoes, Ron wasn’t just in it to win it, though he often did. He most enjoyed showing the love of these sports and his skills with others. He could frequently be found sinking the 8 ball at the GT or throwing a 6pack. These were more than just pastimes to Ron, they were a way of connecting with others, sharing laughs and of course keeping his sharp edge intact.

As a child Ron was raised with his siblings Johnny, Ed, Sandy, Kathy, Dori, Susie, and Sharon as well as close cousins Dave, Melvin, Doug, Ronnie, Kevin, Roxanne, Diane, and Pammy. From the stories told they were all a handful, but he cherished every memory of their time together which carried into adulthood.

At just 15 years of age Ron joined the United States Army, He served 5 years as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division and was a proud veteran of the Vietnam War.

After returning home, Ron married Sheila Minton. They made their home in Glennie where they raised 3 children: Terry, Michelle and Rodney. Ron built a legacy through his businesses, Ron’s Repair and the famously open (almost anytime) Ron’s 23 ½ hour Towing and Recovery.

Ron was always ready with a wrench in hand and a solution in mind for any problem. His hand could fix just about anything. Known for his scrappiness, as well as good nature, Ron seemed to know everyone. He always ran into people he knew wherever he went and made lasting friendships.

Ron found love again later in life and married Joyce (Phillips) Harmon. Their journey together was anything but ordinary. Beginning with a Hillbilly wedding and leading to many adventures and including a unique chapter of life on the remote and beautiful Bois Blane Island. There was truly never a dull moment, Ron recently fulfilled a longtime dream of owning a piece of his family’s original farm-a place that brought him deep joy and a profound sense of belonging.

Ron’s life was a story of strength, love, and connection. He served his country, loved his family fiercely and lived life with both hands firmly on the wheel (less 2 fingers, don’t pick your nose). His memory will be forever cherished by the many who knew and loved him.

Ron is survived by his loving wife, Joyce (Phillips) Harmon; his brother Ed Harmon (Deb); his sister Sharon Harmon; his children: Terry Harmon (Pam) and Michelle Harmon Heilig (James); and 8 grandchildren: Michael (Jill). Ally, Mark, Dominic, Jonathan, Morgan, Ed, and Nick, with a great grandchild on the way.

He is preceded by his parents, his siblings (Johnny, Sandy, Kathy, Dori, Susie, and cousins Dave, Melvin and Diane), former wife Sheila Minton and his son, Rodney Harmon.

Ron will be recognized during a Military Honors Ceremony on October 25th, 2025, beginning at 1pm at the Glennie Ballfield followed by a Celebration of Life at the Glennie Tavern.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to any charitable organization in Ron’s memory.
