Robert (Bob) Anthony Janes was born July 12, 1962. He was raised in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan by his loving parents Richard and Mary Lou Janes and graduated from Seaholm High School.
Bob attended Oakland Community College and had the opportunity to work with the Cranbrook Theatre and the University of Detroit Theare Company. He created lasting memories, particularly during his time in Athens, Greece working on lighting and sound while also performing in several productions.
After spending valuable years working alongside his father in the family business, Bob ventured out to establish his own company, Hard Wood Works, LLC, dedicating himself to his passion for woodworking and artistry. In 2009, he made Lost Lake Woods Club in Lincoln his permanent home, a place that had always been close to his heart.
You would often find Bob in his wood shop, surrounded by sawdust. His spirit of generosity shone through as he volunteered his time and talents for the club, leaving behind a legacy of beautiful projects such as the LLWC crest at the front gate and the sign at the trout pond. Bob cherished the time in nature at Lost Lake, embracing activities like fishing, cutting firewood, morel hunting, star gazing, sunset watching, and just riding the trails on his UTV. Inside, he found joy in music, playing his guitar with friends, enjoying classic movies, and following world-class sporting events like America’s Cup, Tour de France and Wimbledon.
Though Bob had a private nature and a gruff exterior, those who took the time to know him were rewarded with a generous, intelligent, funny and caring friend. He was especially proud of his role as a volunteer firefighter and first responder with Alcona Township Fire & Rescue, Station 3, a true testament of his dedication to his community.
Bob is survived by his sister Joanna (Marc) Boeckl and their children: Brian (his wife Katherine and their children Andreas, Imogene and Thora) and Lindsay Hansmann (her husband Simon and daughter Olivia). He had special friendships with Andy Beresford, Jeff Erdman, Susan Kaca, Lori and Scott Grush, and David Donnay. The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to the staff at DaVita of Alpena for the compassionate care they provided Bob over the last 4 years.
Cremation has already taken place, cared for by Gillies Funeral Home Lincoln, Michigan. A celebration of life will take place at Lost Lake Woods Club on June 21, 2025, from 3:00-6:00pm. Contact Joanna at joboeahome@aol.com for more information.
