Richard S. Hynek

Richard S. Hynek, 75, of Black River, passed away Monday, March 6, 2023 at MyMichigan Medical Center in Alpena. Born December 18, 1947 to Stanley Bill and Helen Frances (Dombrowski) Hynek in Chicago, Il, he was raised in Rhinelander, WI. Rick served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. On June 5, 1971, he married Susan LaForge in Harrisville, MI. Rick worked as a sales and service representative for Besser Corporation in Georgetown Kentucky, and later Alpena, MI. He loved nature and the outdoors, especially fishing, swimming, and waterskiing. He was the king of sarcasm and enjoyed playing Cashword scratch offs. He enjoyed science fiction, as well as science facts. He was a patriotic man and was fiercely protective of his family. Rick is survived by his wife, Susan, five children, Karen Shelton of Herron, MI, Melissa Hynek of Houghton Lake, MI, Stephanie (Robert) Pollock of Sharpsburg KY, Cindy (Michael) Gillispie of Stamping Ground, KY, and Brian Hynek of Alpena, MI, 24 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Edward Hynek. Cremation arrangements were made through Gillies Funeral Home, Lincoln. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
