Rebecca Counsellor, 81, of Hubbard Lake, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2024 at MyMichigan Medical Center, Alpena, after a brief illness.

Born January 18, 1943, to George and Betty (Gardner) Ross in Van Wert, Ohio, she was raised in Ohio City. Becky earned a Bachelor's Degree in Home Economics and Education and later a Master’s Degree in Counseling and Guidance from Bowling Green State University. On August 28, 1965, she married Richard “Rick” Counsellor in Ohio City. They moved to Northern Michigan in 1966. From 1966 to 1970, she worked for three years at Alcona High School and one year at Besser Junior High as a home economics teacher and counselor. She went on to enjoy a 24 year career with the Michigan State University Extension Service as a Home Economist and Youth Agent. She retired in 2002. Becky loved the outdoors, especially kayaking, swimming, walking, biking, snowshoeing, and skiing. She was an avid reader and enjoyed sewing and cooking. The family dogs, cats, and horses were central figures in her life. 

Becky is survived by her husband, Rick, her daughter, Kelly (Craig) Chunchick, of Shelby Township, MI, her son, James Counsellor of Hubbard Lake, two grandchildren, Allison and Brandon Chunchick, and her sister, Suzanne Swayze of Hubbard Lake.  

Memorial visitation will take place Friday, June 14, 2024, from 2:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Gillies Funeral Home in Lincoln.  In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to a local charity of your choice.
