Our father, grandfather, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend passed away on April 1, 2026.
Randy was born on September 6, 1952, in Ferndale, Michigan, to Fred and Louise (Teeple) Indish. He was the oldest of five children. His middle name honored his uncles, Leonard and Richard Indish.
Randy spent most of his early years in Troy, Michigan, except for one year of grade school in New Orleans, Louisiana. In 1968, his family moved to Mikado, Michigan, and shortly thereafter to Greenbush. He graduated from Oscoda Area High School in 1971. Following graduation, he spent time in the Merchant Marines aboard the SS Peter Reese before settling down in Oscoda to start a family.
Randy’s passion for photography—encouraged by his Uncle Leonard—led to a lifelong career. He began with correspondence courses, even setting up a darkroom in his bathroom. His career progressed from working with John Smith in Oscoda to Woodard Photographic in Bellevue, Ohio, then to Fox Portrait Studios in Roseville, and ultimately to owning his own studio in St. Clair Shores. Although he officially retired, photography remained a constant part of his life. His camera was never far from his side.
Randy found great joy in mentoring and teaching aspiring photographers and continued to photograph weddings, portraits, and special events. He especially looked forward to working at the Detroit Athletic Club Christmas Party each year, where “Santa Claus” became a dear friend. He was a conscientious and dedicated worker who believed that while moments may seem ordinary at the time, they become invaluable with time.
Randy was known for his intense passion and drive for excellence in everything he pursued. His interests included bass fishing and tournaments, golf, reading, writing poetry, and sports—especially football and baseball. Above all, he deeply loved his children and grandchildren.
Randy was preceded in death by his son, Jason; his brother, Rick; and his nephew, Timothy.
He is survived by his son, Brad (Angie) of Oxford, Michigan, and their children, Henry and Sadie; his daughter-in-law, Kristy of Linden, Michigan, and her children, Alexandria, Isabella, and Jason; his brother, Rod (Dara) Indish; his sisters, Rebecca Welton and Ramona Lyons; his brother-in-law, Chuck Welton; and his aunts, Helen Indish of Barton City and Linda Treece of Eustis, Florida.
He is also survived by his godsons, Jeremy Welton and David Indish; three additional nephews; five nieces; three great-nephews; and four great-nieces.
Randy leaves behind special friends, Sue Ruckle and Yakov Faytlin, whose support he deeply cherished.
His beloved dog, Tucker, has been adopted by his great-niece Vivian in accordance with Randy’s wishes.
Visitation will be held at Gillies Funeral Home in Lincoln, Michigan on Saturday April 11th from noon until the service at 2:00PM. Interment will follow at Springport Cemetery.
