Hubbard Lake

Randy “Randazzle” or “Old Bird” DeHate, age 76, passed away peacefully at home on July 1, 2025, in Hubbard Lake, Michigan. Born on October 2, 1948, in St. Clair, Michigan, Randy lived a full and meaningful life rooted in hard work, family, and the simple joys of the outdoors.

A proud graduate of Brighton High School’s Class of 1967, Randy went on to build a successful career as an electrician. He was a dedicated member of Local 324 and Local 665, where he earned the respect of his peers through his strong work ethic and commitment to his craft. After decades of service, he retired up north to Hubbard Lake—a place that quickly became home and where he spent the last seven years forging new friendships and enjoying the company of what he often called “the best neighbors.”

Randy was known for his welcoming nature and big heart. Whether he was tinkering with a project or sharing stories at the picnic table while watching deer wander by, he brought warmth and laughter to those around him. A true outdoorsman at heart, Randy found joy in hunting, boating, and fishing. He was also an avid fan of the Detroit Lions and Tigers—loyal through every season.

He is survived by his beloved wife Lynn DeHate; his son Travis DeHate and Travis’s partner Michelle Krull—affectionately known to Randy as “Dr. Michelle”; bonus granddaughters Ella and Ava; stepson Ryan (Elizabeth) Sullivan; sisters Candy Kirchner and Colleen Frederick; brother Wayne DeHate (Karen); as well as numerous nieces and nephews who will carry forward his memory with love.

Randy was preceded in death by his father Orville DeHate and mother Bernice Kearns.

A celebration of Randy’s life will be held at a later date among family and friends.

May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and joy in remembering a life well lived.
