Michael J. Martin, 77 of Mikado, MI, passed away on April 6 th , 2025, at his home. He was born on December 10 th , 1947 in Ypsilanti, MI to Robert J. Martin and Henrietta (Thomas) Martin.

Michael graduated from Franklin High School in 1966. After high school, Mike enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he served four tours in Vietnam aboard the USS Hancock. He was honorably discharged in 1970. Mike married Shelly Cobe in 1982, and they had three children together. Settling near Boyne City and the shores of Lake Charlevoix. Michael often volunteered in activities as his children grew up, such as Boy Scouts of America and the Naval Sea Cadets. He relocated to the Mikado area in 1999.

Michael loved the outdoors. Including going fishing with his grandkids, hunting with his son or mushroom hunting with friends. He loved spending time with his lifelong friends looking for mushrooms, golfing or hiking. Michael was also an avid reader and particularly enjoyed westerns, with Louis L’Amour being his favorite author. If you visited him at his house, you would notice he enjoyed antique collecting, often giving his grandkids something unique to play with when they came over.

Michael is greatly loved and missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his three children, Michael (Cina) Martin, Christopher (Lindsey) Martin and Jessica (Chris) Melendez and two grandchildren (Clair and Mason Martin.) As well as his brother Roger (Corine) Martin and his sisters Ann (Steve) Zbyradowski and Rusty Kahn. Michael is proceeded in death by his sister Kathy, and brothers Robert, Thomas and Richard.

Cremation arrangements were made through Gillies Funeral Home, Lincoln.
