Marilyn L. Bachelor, 87, of Hubbard Lake, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, October 4, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Marilyn was born November 1, 1938, to Lawrence and Rosemary (Paash) Lowell in Flint, Michigan, and was raised in Clio, Michigan. She attended Jobson School, a small one-room schoolhouse in Thetford Township for her first six years of school, an experience that was very much a part of her early life and upbringing. She later attended and graduated from Clio High School in Clio, Michigan. It was there that Marilyn met the young man who would become her husband, Richard Bachelor.

Marilyn valued education throughout her life. She went on to earn her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Michigan. On August 27, 1960, she and Richard were married in Clio, beginning a marriage that would span more than 66 years. Marilyn worked as a nurse at McLaren Hospital in Flint for several years before deciding to return to school. She earned her Master's Degree in Education from the University of Michigan in 1967 and went on to share her love of learning with generations of children as an elementary school teacher at Garner Elementary School in Clio.

In 1992, Marilyn and Richard retired to Hubbard Lake, where they built the life they had looked forward to. Retirement gave Marilyn the opportunity to pursue many of the things she enjoyed, including her love of travel. Together, Marilyn and Richard traveled to numerous countries, experiencing different cultures, places, and people along the way. These travels became an important part of their life together and created many wonderful memories. Marilyn was also able to devote more time to her art, golf, and the many other things she loved.

Marilyn was a gifted and accomplished artist. She enjoyed painting in watercolor, oils, and acrylics, and her talent took her work far beyond her own home. She was a founding member of the Northeast Michigan Artist Guild and a member of the International Society of Experimental Artists, where she earned the distinguished status of Nautilus Fellow. Her artwork was exhibited in numerous locations, including the Sloan Museum in Flint and in Washington, D.C.

Marilyn also loved golf. She enjoyed the game, but perhaps even more, she enjoyed the friendships and time spent with others. She was instrumental in starting the couples league at White Pine National Golf Course located near Hubbard Lake, creating another place for people to come together and enjoy one another's company.

Above all, Marilyn will be remembered by her family as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her husband, Richard; her sons, Brad (Janine) Bachelor and Dale (Suzanne) Bachelor; grandchildren Sean, Seth, Nathan, Ashley, and Dale Jr.; five great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and brothers Larry (Natalie) Lowell, Terry (Ellen) Lowell, and Ron Lowell.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Rosemary (Paash) Lowell, and her daughter-in-law, Kathleen Bachelor.

Marilyn leaves behind a life filled with family, education, teaching, art, friendships, and the beauty of Hubbard Lake. Her creativity and accomplishments touched many lives, but it is the memories she made with the people she loved that will remain with her family and friends.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 13, 2026, from 12:00 PM until the Memorial Service at 2:00 PM at Gillies Funeral Home in Lincoln.
