Marie B. Schelley, 106, of Burton, formerly of Glennie and Lincoln, passed away Friday, May 15, 2026 in Burton.
Born August 31, 1919, to Herman and Dora (Hopp) Wagner in Rogers City, MI, she was raised there. In 1942, she married Robert Schelley in Metz, MI. They were longtime residents of Lincoln and of Lost Lake Woods Club, later moving to Glennie. Marie graduated from Central Michigan University with her teaching certificate and worked for many years in elementary education at Alcona Community Schools. She was a great cook, and was known for her fish dinners. She was an avid crafter and enjoyed playing golf. Marie loved playing cards, especially pinochle. She was a charter member of New Life Lutheran Church in Spruce.
Marie is survived by her children, Deanne (Neal) Sweet, Mary (Butch) Sheldon, and Gary (Margaret) Schelley, six grandchildren, Lisa (Bob) Wood, David (Angie) Sweet, Bill (Teri) Little, Karen (Steve) McKeon, and Kevin and Emily Schelley, seven great grandchildren, Nathan (Kristine) Wood, Brandon Sweet, Jason Sweet, Ian Little, Brett, Bree, and Anissa, and her great great granddaughter, Ada Kay Wood. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert on April 2, 2006, three brothers and three sisters.
Mrs. Schelley is at Gillies Funeral Home, Lincoln, where visitation will be Thursday, May 21, 2026 from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Alpena at 2:00 PM.
