Louis E. “Luke” Mahalak, 90, of Lincoln, passed away peacefully June 23, 2026 at his home.
Born March 16, 1936 to Vincent William and Honora (Joseph) Mahalak in Lincoln, he was a lifelong resident of the area. Luke served as Military Police in the United States Army. On December 15, 1956, he married Rose Bugg in Harrisville. Luke enjoyed a long career in construction with Mahalak Inc., and continued to build after retirement for his many family and friends. Luke loved to play and coach baseball. He served as a mentor and friend to his numerous teammates and kids that he coached over the years. Luke was often found in his backyard tending to his garden, always sharing the vegetables he grew. He was an avid hunter, and always had Rose by his side in the deer blind. He hunted until age 89, when he bagged a trophy buck. He enjoyed fishing, a passion he shared with his grandson, Daniel, ice fishing with him often. He has shared his love of hunting and fishing with several of his grandchildren, and they all enjoyed his stories. Luke was a member of the Lincoln Lions and of the American Legion, Mikado Post 254.
Luke is survived by his wife, Rose, three daughters, Shelia Robbins, Carrie (Howard) Hale, and Louann (Stace) Krone, 12 grandchildren, Hope Ann (Ed) Ludwig, Casie (Pete) Gilbertson, Tara Beth (Donny) Wilson, Luke (Chesney) Robbins, Nathan (Jacqueleene) Walker, Daniel Hale, Kelsey (Devon) Abraham, Greyson (Sarah) Krone, Foster (Meaghan) Krone, Mariah Krone, and Addison Krone, 20 great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren, with one on the way, two sisters, Connie Shaffer and Suzanne O’Connor, three sisters-in-law, Geraldine Mahalak, Sharon Mahalak, and Francis Mahalak, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Tom Robbins, his sister, Margaret Trembath, and four brothers, Raymond Mahalak, David Mahalak, Eugene Mahalak, and Vincent Mahalak.
Honoring Luke’s family’s wishes for privacy, there will be no services. Cremation arrangements were made through Gillies Funeral Home, Lincoln.
