Loraine P. Gauthier

Loraine Gauthier, 89, of Black River, passed away Thursday, December 27, 2018, at her home. Loraine was born on October 16, 1929, to David and Louise (Crevier) Potvin, in Black River, where she was raised. On February 1, 1947, she married Joseph Gauthier, with whom she shared her life until Joseph's death on January 26, 2014. In 1952, Loraine and Joe moved to Harrisville, where they constructed their home just north of the city, and lived there until moving back to Black River in 1973. While in Harrisville, Loraine worked for several years at the drug store on Main Street and became an avid bowler. Upon returning to Black River in 1973, Loraine became a member of Saint Gabriel Catholic Church, was a volunteer worker during local and national elections, continued her favorite hobby of bowling, and enjoyed raising her chickens and cattle on the farm. Loraine is survived by her four sons, Robert (Gloria) of Murfreesboro, TN, Allen (Lya) of East Tawas, MI, Ronald of Black River, MI and Kent (Bonny) of Lincoln, MI. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Michelle (Shane) Herron, Jerusha (John) McDonald, Nichol (Craig) Johnston, Nathan (Emily) Gauthier, Amber Granger, and Ethan Gauthier, seven great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Kecia Gauthier, on July 22, 2010, and her sister, Dolores Swoboda. Funeral arrangements have been made by Gillies Funeral Home in Lincoln. Visitation will be at Saint Gabriel Catholic Church in Black River on Wednesday, January 2, from 10 A.M. until the funeral mass at 11 A.M. Reverend Father Robert Bissot will officiate. Loraine will be laid to eternal rest next to Joe in Calvary Cemetery, Black River, MI. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Loraine may be made to the Alcona County Commission on Aging (ACCOA), 207 Church Street, P.O. Box 218, Lincoln, MI, 48742.
