Joseph M. “Joe” Scamazzo, 81, of Mikado, passed away Sunday, August 16, 2026, at Medilodge of Tawas City.


Joe was born February 26, 1945, in Detroit, Michigan, to Antonio and Antonette (Savino) Scamazzo. He was raised in Detroit and Garden City. On July 4, 1964, he married Carole Joyce in Dearborn. They lived in Plymouth until moving to Greenbush in 1972.


Joe owned and operated Alcona Septic Service for 35 years. A hardworking and dependable man, he loved working outdoors and took great pride in caring for his property. He also enjoyed carpentry and cement work and was always willing to lend a hand to family and friends. Joe was a devoted husband and father who believed in doing the right thing and treating others with kindness and honesty.


As a longtime resident of Alcona County, Joe became well known throughout the community through his business, Alcona Septic. Many residents knew him as a friendly, honest, and hardworking man who could be counted on when they needed help.


Joe is survived by his wife, Carole; two sons, Daniel (Kari) Scamazzo and Matthew (Kerri) Scamazzo; four grandchildren, Jeffrey Scamazzo, Megan (Dylan) Gagne, Romy Scamazzo, and Luca Scamazzo; two great-grandchildren, Donovan Scamazzo and Cole Gagne; his brother, Frank (Barb) Scamazzo; and many nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by his three sisters, Grace Panzica, Rose Smolen, and Frances Bates.


A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Cremation arrangements were made through Gillies Funeral Home in Lincoln.
