John Ambler Nihranz, 86, of Harrisville, passed away Tuesday, May 12, 2026 at MyMichigan Medical Center in Alpena.
Born August 29, 1939, to Earl and Marjorie (Thompson) Nihranz in Royal Oak, MI, he was raised there. John served in the United States Army. On August 4, 1962, he married Marcia Pyrra in Detroit. John worked at Wyndham Industries in Ferndale, and General Motors in Hamtramck, and retired to Harrisville, MI. He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Ossineke, MI. John enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and wood working. Most of all, he loved spending time on the beach with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
John is survived by his wife, Marcia, three children, Steven (Catherine) Nihranz of Fostoria, MI, Jeffrey (Susan) Nihranz of Chesterfield, MI, and Beth (Greg) Schelesky of Sterling Heights, MI, five grandchildren, Guy (Tiffany) Davidson, Erik (Isvi) Schelesky, Jacqueline Nihranz, Kyle (Anna) Schelesky, and Danny Nihranz, five great grandchildren, Sophia Davidson, Anthony Davidson, Josephine Schelesky, Ethan Schelesky, and Marco Cintron. Surviving siblings, his sister Joan Mobily of Wellston MI and his brother Ronald (Karen) Nihranz of Harsens Island MI, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister Phyllis Boyd, and his brother, Robert Nihranz.
There will be a memorial service Saturday, May 23, 2026 at 1:00 PM at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 12365 US 23 South, Ossineke, MI 49766, with a luncheon to follow. Memorials are suggested to Immanuel Lutheran Church “High School Expansion Fund”, 351 Wilson Street, Alpena, MI 49707, or to the charity of your choice. Cremation arrangements were made through Gillies Funeral Home, Lincoln.
