Jimmie Lloyd Bean was born on July 7, 1937, in Orange, Texas. He was one of eight children from the union of Lloyd Fred Bean and Ottie May (Lavine) Bean. He graduated high school and as soon as he gained enough weight to satisfy requirements, he proudly joined the United States Air Force.

Jimmie spent many years living in Northern Michigan before he made his home in Monroe. He was a man of deep faith, and that faith found its fullest expression in his years of service as a pastoral associate at Solid Rock Church of God Lincoln, Michigan. Jimmie believed in showing up for people; sitting with them, praying with them, and speaking honestly with them about the things that mattered. His ministry was an extension of who he was, a man that cared enough to be direct. Jimmie had a beautiful saying as he walked out of church announcing “WELL GLORY” from the top of his lungs after leaving the building.

That directness was, in many ways, Jimmie's signature. If he saw you heading down a path he didn't agree with, he wasn't going to stay quiet and hope things worked out. He pulled you aside, looked you in the eye, and told you exactly what he thought, not out of judgment, but out of love. Jimmie corrected because he cared, and he wanted better for the people around him, and he wasn't afraid to say so.

He had a sense of humor that could turn a stern conversation into a shared laugh within minutes, and he brought warmth into every room he entered. His greatest love story was with his wife, Sherri. After God, Sherri was always Jimmie's top priority.

Jimmie also simply loved to go for a drive. It didn't seem to matter where he was headed; if there was a reason to get behind the wheel, Jimmie took it. He was, by his own family's admission, not a particularly good driver, and his heavy foot on the gas pedal was the stuff of long-running ribbing among those who loved him. The last three months of his life, Sherri was his driver and they started going to the river to see animals in nature and they would share a meal while sitting there.
