Jeffrey P. Sutton, 62, of Barton City, MI, passed away Sunday, May 10, 2026 at his home.
Born September 25, 1963, to Robert and Barbara (Hebel) Sutton in St. Clair, Michigan, he was raised in Richmond and Barton City. On June 27, 1981, he married Karen Forsythe in Barton City. Jeff was a proud member of the Laborer’s Union, Local 1191. He moved to Memphis, MI in 1986, where he raised his family for 30 years before retiring and moving up north to Barton City. Jeff loved his community, and was often found volunteering to make Barton City a better place to live. He was a member of the Barton City Volunteer Fire Department, and of the Barton City Eagles Aerie 4141, where he served as trustee. Every year he helped put on the Biggest Little Fourth in the North, and was a member of the Fireworks Crew. He loved to throw horseshoes, and was a member of the TNT Horseshoe league downstate, and the local Northeastern Horseshoe League. He enjoyed hunting, golfing, and cutting wood.
Jeff is survived by his wife, Karen, three children, Jeffrey R. (Jodi) Sutton, Jessica (Kevin) Schaefer, and Adam (Renee) Sutton, nine grandchildren, Chase, Aubrey, Carter, Myles, Charlotte, Henry, Tyler, Chris, and Jacob, five siblings, Robert (Debi) Sutton, Peggy (Randy) Houston, John (Cindy) Sutton, Timothy (Lynda) Sutton, and Tammy (Mike) McAbee, his mother-in-law, Marjorie Forsythe, two sisters-in-law, Marlene Forsythe, and Edna (Dennis) Taylor, his brother-in-law, Jerry (Shelia) Forsythe, as well as many nieces and nephews, and close friends who have become his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Barbara Sutton, his father-in-law, Wilbur Forsythe, and his brother-in-law, Peter Forsythe.
Visitation will be Wednesday, May 13, 2026 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Gillies Funeral Home in Lincoln. Visitation will continue at the funeral home on Thursday, May 14, 2026 from 11:00 AM until the funeral service at 1:00 PM. Details on a Celebration of Life to be held downstate will be announced in the near future. Memorial donations are suggested to the Barton City Eagles Club.
