James F. Potter, 79, of Harrisville, passed away Thursday, June 1, 2023, at Medilodge of Alpena. Born May 23, 1944, to Forrest and Bonnie (Dewar) Potter in Harrisville, MI, he was raised there. Jim served in the United States Marine Corps from 1962-1966. On August 3, 1968, he married Barbara Oliver in Lincoln. They were longtime residents of Westland. Jim worked in tool and die and retired to Harrisville in 2007. He was a member of the Harrisville United Methodist Church and of the men’s group, as well as the Harrisville Lions Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, and watching his grandchildren play baseball. Jim is survived by his wife, Barbara, his son Martin (Julie) Potter, five grandchildren, Amanda, Joshua, Angel, Edgar, and Hilda Potter, his great granddaughter, Aubry Becker, two sisters, Jill (Chris) VanAntwerp, and Judith (Lee) DuCharme, his brother, Gilbert (Laurene) Potter, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Mia Potter on November 5, 2008, and his son Matthew Potter on July 6, 2011. Mr. Potter is at Gillies Funeral Home in Lincoln, where visitation will take place from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Monday, June 5, 2023. Visitation will continue Tuesday, June 6, 2023, from 10:00 AM until the funeral service at 11:00 AM. Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery, Harrisville. Memorial donations are suggested to Harrisville United Methodist Church.
