January 10, 1935 — November 25, 2021

Gordon Lyle Rasmussen of Ossineke died peacefully surrounded by his family on November 25, 2021, at Mid-Michigan Health Center in Alpena, Michigan at the age of 86. “Lyle”, as he was affectionately known, was born on January 10,1935, to Gordon and Violet Rasmussen. He and his family lived in Spruce, Michigan throughout his childhood. He attended Alpena High School and received his teaching degree from Central Michigan University. He resided in Ossineke since the late 1950’s. Lyle taught for most of his 40 years at nearby Sanborn Elementary, touching the lives of generations of children. He was a lifelong active member of Spruce Lutheran Church. Lyle balanced his career with his hobbies and time spent with family and friends. He loved the outdoors, in particular fishing and duck hunting in his prime. He was an avid gardener and was passionate about all things baseball, but especially his Tigers. Lyle’s favorite pastime throughout his life was playing cards with family and friends. His memory will be cherished and kept alive by his wife, Jeanne Rasmussen; children Renee (Dave) Bradford of Valparaiso, Indiana; Kyle Rasmussen (Debbie Heaney) of Ann Arbor; and step-children Julie (Don) Abram of League City, Texas; and Patrick Morrow of Union, New Jersey. He is preceded in death by his parents, Violet and Gordon Rasmussen, his brother Gerald, and his first wife, Marie Rasmussen. A public visitation will be held at Gillies Funeral Home in Lincoln on Saturday, December 11, 2021 from 10:00-11:30 am. The funeral service will immediately follow at 11:30 in the same location. Former pastor of Spruce Lutheran Church, Rev. Reed Schroer, will officiate the ceremony. In lieu of flowers, please consider a tribute donation to the Alpena Senior Center in Lyle’s memory. The family would like to thank the dedicated nursing staff at Mid-Michigan Health Center’s COVID recovery unit for their care and compassion. They would especially like to thank his wonderful caregivers who provided support and companionship for many years: Sara, Lori, Jenny and Jeff. His final years were better because of each of them.
