Florence V. Cordes

Florence V. Cordes, 104, of Barton City, MI, passed away Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at her home. Born July 31, 1918, to Earl P. and Grace E. (Pattee) Greene in Omer, MI, she was raised in Curran. Florence attended County Normal School, and later graduated from Central Michigan University. She taught school for many years at County Normal. On June 6, 1942, she married George Cordes. They were residents of Barton City. Florence was a devoted member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Barton City and loved reading the Bible. She enjoyed playing board games, cooking, baking, and helping people whenever she could. Florence is survived by her grandchildren, Carl (Ashley) Cordes, Danny (Jacqui) Cordes, and Michael Cordes, great grandchildren, Ava, Jaylin, Madelynn, and Jason, and her daughter-in-law, Georgetta Cordes. She was preceded in death by her husband, George on June 20, 1982, her sons James Cordes and Carl Cordes, her sister, Marian Martin, and her brother, Oramel Greene. Florence is at Gillies Funeral Home in Lincoln, where visitation will be held Monday, June 19, 2023, from 11:00 AM until the funeral service at 3:00 PM. Rev. Christina Bright will officiate. The burial will be in the Trinity Lutheran Church in Barton City. Memorial donations are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church.
