Douglas M. Atchison

Douglas M. Atchison, 64, of Harrisville, passed away suddenly, July 9, 2026, at MyMichigan Medical Center in Alpena.

Born July 16, 1961, to Milo and Clara (Lee) Atchison in Harrisville, he was raised there. Doug graduated from Alcona High School in 1979, and from the Macomb Police Academy in 1981. On August 22, 1981, he married Linda Deller in Harrisville. Doug was Chief of Police for the City of Harrisville Police Department from 1981 until 1983 when he joined the Alcona County Sheriff’s Department. He served with the Alcona Sheriff's Department for 36 years, and was appointed to Undersheriff in 1993. He held that position for 14 years, until he was appointed to Sheriff in October 2007, a position he held for 12 years, retiring May 1, 2019. Doug enjoyed spending time with his wife and family, hunting, fishing, trapping and gardening.

Doug is survived by his wife, Linda, his son John (Shannon) Atchison of Washington, MI, his daughter, Chelsea (Don) Neuenfeldt, four grandchildren, Evan, Grace, and Ryan Atchison, and Milo Neuenfeldt, two sisters, Bonnie (Dan) Monroe, and Shirley Dankow, his mother-in-law, Carolyn Deller, his aunt, Vivian Atchison Gray, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clara Simon and Milo Atchison, his father-in-law, Connie Deller, and his brother-in-law, Tom Dankow.
