Dawn Bick

March 11, 1946 — June 18, 2023

Dawn Bick (nee Eros) of Maricopa, AZ, previously of Santa Fe NM, died suddenly and unexpectedly at her summer home on Cedar Lake in Greenbush MI on June 18, 2023. Dawn was born in Port Colborne Ontario, Canada on March 11, 1946, the daughter and oldest child of Paul P. and Eleanor L. (Schoenthaler) Eros. Dawn often said she had three careers. She received a Bachelor of Nursing Science from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario in 1968. She worked for several years in the nursing profession, both as a nurse and a nurse educator. In 1982, she received a Master of Library and Information Science Degree from the University of Western Ontario in London Ontario. After sixteen years in Libraries, she left her position of Associate Director for Collections at the Houston Academy of Medicine/Texas Medical Center Library in Houston TX to begin her final occupation. In 1999, Dawn and her husband Paul became the owners and operators of Santa Fe Cats, a cat only boarding kennel in Santa Fe NM. After fifteen years of cat wrangling. Dawn and Paul retired to Maricopa, AZ. Dawn met her future husband, Paul Bick, while they both were attending The School of Library and Information Science in London Ontario. Paul had returned to the United States after graduation, and a year later returned to Canada where he and Dawn were married on April 30, 1983. She moved to the United States with Paul in 1984. They enjoyed Forty years of Love and Mutual respect and friendship. Throughout this journey, Dawn enjoyed traveling. She and Paul logged thousands of miles on road trips through many states and provinces. They visited the Bahamas, New Zealand, the U.K., Baja, Mexico, Portugal, Costa Rica and Tanzania. Dawn had a memorable trip with her cousins Mary Karpinchick and Gene and Marie Stampfer on the Danube and finished it off with a visit to the small town in Romania where her father was born. Dawn met and influenced many people with her calm demeanor, support and encouragement. She would humbly accept a complement and respond by offering one of equal sincerity in return. She always remembered Birthdays and Anniversaries of family members and friends. Dawn was preceded in death by her parents, her grandparents, Simon and Elizabeth Eros, and her Aunt Margaret (Eros) Katona. Dawn is survived by her husband of 40 years, Paul Bick; brother Robert Eros (Sharon); nephews Paul Eros (Gaia Elkington), Jonathon Eros (Julie), Stephen Eros (Jennifer); cousins, Kenneth Katona, Mary Karpinchick, Patti Beck, Kathy Brown (Scott), Gene Stampfer (Marie), Monica Stampfer, Kevin Karpinchick, Beth Foresi (Anthony), Brian Schoenthaler (Suzanne) and her two dogs, Ms. Ming and Harold. As she wished, Dawn’s ashes will be placed with her parents and grandparents in The Mount Saint Joseph Cemetery in Port Colborne, Ontario. There will be no formal funeral service, gathering of friends and family, August 19, 2023, at 2:00 PM, at (712 Lakeshore Rd E, Port Colborne, ON). Please do not send flowers. If anyone wishes to commemorate Dawn’s life, Donations in her memory to an Animal Rescue or Welfare organization would be appropriate. Dawn had a deep love for animals. She and Paul regularly supported the Morris Animal foundation (Denver CO), Performing Animal Welfare Society (San Andreas CA), and Save the Manatee Club (Maitland FL). On a more personal level, Dawn and Paul worked closely over several years with Felines and Friends New Mexico, (Santa Fe), a cat rescue organization. Felines and Friends is always in need of money, and a donation to them in Dawn’s memory will have added significance because of her long working relationship with them. Dawn also always supported the Local Public Library, Adult Literacy Programs and the Local Food Bank. Dawn’s husband, Paul, would like to thank everyone for all the concern and support he has received from friends, new and old, and family members, both his and Dawn’s. It has helped him greatly to deal with the shock of Dawn’s death. Thank you to Gillies Funeral Home and the help that Sara, Aaron and Chris gave me, and the Alcona County Sheriff's Department and the emergency and support staff. Everyone was all so kind and helpful, and so professional. To order memorial trees or send flowers to the family in memory of Dawn Bick, please visit our flower store.
