Dale Richard Ewart, 92, of Greenbush, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 3, 2026. Dale was born to Roland and Rhoda (Crean) Ewart on January 19, 1934, in Detroit, Michigan, and grew up in Grosse Pointe, where he played high school baseball and football. After high school, he attended the University of Michigan and earned a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Business Administration (MBA). After graduating, Dale began his management career with Chrysler Corporation.
In 1959, Dale met the fetching and talented Norma White, courted her over baseball and hockey games, and the two were married on April 16, 1960. They moved into their first home in Grosse Pointe Woods on April 28, 1963, which just happened to be their daughter’s first birthday. His career took the family to Kokomo, Indiana, and then back to Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, until he retired in 1994 after working 36 years in Chrysler’s Purchasing Department.
After retiring, Dale and Norma purchased the Lake Huron house in Greenbush that his father had built upon his own retirement in the 1950s. The lake house became the setting for many wonderful memories shared with their adult children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild.
Dale’s two passions in life were his family and sports. He was a devoted husband to Norma, the love of his life, and a proud father to their three children, Dale Jr., Susan, and Gary. He coached Little League football and baseball for both Dale Jr.’s and Gary’s teams and had a lifelong passion for running and ice hockey. Dale played competitive hockey in an over-30 league until age 70. He rarely missed a soccer match (for Gary) or track meet (for Dale Jr.) and was the most devoted supporter of his daughter Susan’s equestrian competitions.
Upon moving to Greenbush, Dale was an original member of the Huron Hockey and Skating Association, which built the free outdoor ice rink in Oscoda, and served as treasurer for the original Oscoda Health and Recreation Center in the mid-1990s. Dale enjoyed spending quality time with his grandchildren—from time on the beach and trips to KFC to attending their various events and traveling out of state to visit them.
Until recently, Dale was active in the community. At various times, he served as a deacon and elder at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Harrisville. He volunteered at St. Joseph Hospital in Tawas and was a board member for about 15 years with the Oscoda Area United Way.
Surviving Dale are his wife Norma, sister Janet Brooks (Bob) of Houston, Texas, sons Dale Ewart (Jeryl Davis) of Cooper City, Florida, Gary Ewart (Karyn) of Arlington, Virginia, and Susan Ewart (Tom Maves) of Lansing, Michigan. Also surviving are six grandchildren: Leah Ewart (Fred Romero), Ben, Sam, and Jake Maves, and Maya and Graeme Ewart, and one great grandchild, Freddy Romero. Dale was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Jerry.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 8, 2026, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, located at 201 N. 2nd St., Harrisville, MI 48740. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., with the service at 2:00 p.m., followed by light refreshments. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Sunrise Gardening Club, Huron Pines, or a local nature conservancy or other charitable cause of your choice.
