Beverley Gail Johnson-Owens, age 89, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2026 in Big Rapids, Michigan.
Beverley was born in Ferndale, Michigan on February 24, 1937 to the late Victor E. and Estella Clark (Holmes). She graduated from South Side High School in Fort Wayne, IN in 1955. She attended Central Michigan University before marrying Melvin Herbert (Herb) Johnson, Jr. in Southfield, MI on June 14, 1958. They were married for 48 wonderful years before Herb’s passing on October 17, 2006.
Beverley (Bev) worked for Ford Motor Company as a secretary before she and Herb moved to Ossineke, MI in 1961 and started a family. Bev supported Herb in his working roles and in their joint data processing and property management company after moving to Gainesville, Florida in 1974. She worked for the University of Florida for a period, but spent most of her time in Florida being a dedicated “stay at home” mom while their children were growing up. Bev and Herb returned to Michigan in 1989 and resided in the Clark family home in Harrisville, where she worked for Alcona Abstract. During both her early and later years in life, she enjoyed bowling, playing golf, and playing cards, Scrabble and other games with family and friends often. She was a proud member of Lady Lions. Bev volunteered her time during retirement on the jury board for Alcona County for many years. She was a faithful member and servant of Harrisville United Methodist Church for 37 years where she supported the mission in many roles; In United Methodist Women, The Administrative Council, Board of Trustees, and countless fundraising events. But her favorite role was greeting on Sunday mornings. She loved all of the hugs and coffee time after church!
In 2015, Bev was blessed to meet the 2nd love of her life, George Owens. They were married in Harrisville UMC on May 1, 2016. Bev and George spent their time together camping and traveling all over parts of Michigan and the U.S., riding their electric tandem trikes and feeding their pet squirrels on the front porch of their home.
Beverley’s legacy lives on in her children, a daughter, Susan (David) of Jacksonville, FL, 2 sons, Paul (Claire) of Gainesville, FL, John (Jennifer) of Big Rapids, MI, and her six grandchildren, Jessica, Kyle, Reid, Rion, Vince and Hope. She is survived by her husband, George A. Owens, who gave her 10 glorious and dedicated years of devotion and care, and many family and friends.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Harrisville United Methodist Church on Saturday, June 13th at 2:00 pm. A meal will be served afterwards in the fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Harrisville United Methodist Church. 217 N. State Street, Harrisville, MI 48740
