Arthur Guren

Arthur “Art” L. Guren, 85, of Hubbard Lake, passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2019, at home. He was born in Akron, OH, on April 16, 1934, and served 21 years in the United States Army, retiring as a Lt. Colonel before moving to Hubbard Lake. He was a member of the Alcona Health Center Board for several years, served as a substitute teacher in Alpena and Alcona schools, and taught GED classes, as well as art classes. Arthur was director of the Arts and Crafts Center at Wurtsmith AFB until its closing and served on the board during the initial years of Alpena’s Art in the Loft. Arthur and his wife taught stained glass classes at their Hubbard Lake studio “The Glass Act” for many years. They designed and created the windows at the Grand Lake Community Chapel on Presque Isle. He recently retired as president of Temple Beth El after serving almost 20 years. Arthur is survived by his wife of 45 years, Judith; children Becky, of NC; Robin, of Puerto Rico; Kimberly (Hal) Jacob, of Gaylord; Brigitte Peterson, and Greg, of KY; grandchildren Ryan Jacob, Ashley Jacob, and Alex Guren; one great grandchild, a brother Sol Guren, of OH, and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by daughter Renee Guren, of MO. There will be a private Celebration of Life.
