Richard P. Somers

Richard P. Somers, 82, of Lincoln, passed away Friday, March 9, 2018 at Lincoln Haven Nursing and Rehabilitation Community. Born March 13, 1935, to Otto P. and Gladys M. (Genge) Somers in Lincoln, he has been a lifelong resident. Dick served in the U.S. Navy. On February 25, 1956, he married Norma Hart in Lincoln. Dick was a heavy equipment operator, and had a long career in the construction industry. He loved Lincoln, and worked for the Village for 21 years, and served as trustee on the Village Council. Dick was a caring man and a loving father. He was a hard worker who was very dedicated to his community. He was an avid sports fan, and especially enjoyed baseball. He built and maintained the baseball fields in Lincoln, because it was important to him that kids have a place to play. He also enjoyed cutting grass and working on cars. Dick is survived by his wife, Norma, five children, Bambi (Bradley) Stewart of Lincoln, Vickie (Phil) Phillips of Lincoln, Tim (Roxanne) Somers of Lincoln, Shawn (Nancy) Somers of Lincoln, and Terri (Clint) Woods of Gaylord, eight grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews, and several brothers and sisters-in-law. He was preceded in death by one sister, Bernice Somers, and three brothers, Russell, Harold, and Donald Somers. There will be a memorial service Saturday, March 17, 2018 at 4:00 PM at Gillies Funeral Home in Lincoln. His family will begin receiving visitors at 2:00 PM.
