Donald C. Kernan

Donald C. Kernan, 83, of Harrisville, passed away Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at his home. Born November 18, 1934 to Ancel and Margaret (Brian) Kernan in Ecorse, MI, he was raised there. Don worked as a supervisor with the Department of Public Works in Wayne County. On May 9, 1980, he married Dolores Robichaud in Northern Quebec, and they were residents of Ecorse and Southgate. In 1986, he retired to Harrisville. Don was an athlete, who loved rowing. He participated in many Rowing Regattas, winning medals in several Canadian Henley Regattas. He built a log cabin in Harrisville, and eventually turned it into his home. He also enjoyed carving ducks. Don is survived by his wife, Dolores, two daughters, Cynthia (Steve) Cheatham of Monroe, MI and Roxanne (Ron) Westerman of Wyandotte, two sons, Daniel Kernan of Oscoda, and Dennis Kernan of Silver Springs, FL, 13 granchildren, 15 great grandchildren, one sister, Shirley Pasco, and two brothers, Jack (Ruth) Kernan and Earl (Peggy) Kernan. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Kernan, and Ruth (Jim) Wilcox. Mr. Kernan is at Gillies Funeral Home, Harrisville, where friends may call on Sunday, January 28, 2018 from 1:00 PM until the funeral service at 4:00 PM.
