LaJean Klein

LaJean Klein, 97, of Harrisville, passed away Saturday, August 12, 2017 at her home. Born August 6, 1920 to Harry and Eva (Warnick) Conrad in Plankinton, South Dakota, she was raised there. La Jean moved to Michigan in the early 1940s. She worked as a secretary at Wurtsmith Air Force Base during WWII. She married Viggo Klein in Harrisville in 1945. He preceded her in death in 1950. La Jean worked for many years as a secretary at the Alcona County Road Commission. She was an avid reader, and enjoyed bowling. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star #184 of Lincoln, and a former member of the Harrisville Lady Lions. LaJean is survived by two sons, Christian (Pamela) Klein of Bay City, and Karl (Gail) Klein of Bay City, two granddaughters, Kristin Klein of Ypsilanti, and Kendell (Michael) Reffett of Lawton OK, one great granddaughter, Kenley Reffett, and one sister, Iona Weeks of Mountain Home Arkansas, as well as several cousins, nieces, nephews, and her special caregiver, Lynn Humpert. She was preceded in death by her sister, Alice MacDonald, her brother, Kenneth Conrad, and her long time friend, George Ritchie. Mrs. Klein is at Gillies Funeral Home, Harrisville, where friends may call on Friday, August 18, 2017 from 3:00 until 7:00 P.M. Visitation will continue on Saturday, August 19, from 10:00 A.M. until the funeral service at 12:00 P.M. Burial will be in Springport Cemetery. Memorial Donations are suggested to The American Cancer Society, The Salvation Army, or to the Harrisville Goodfellows.
