Mary Jane Peters, 94, of the South End of Hubbard Lake, MI, and Ft. Myers Beach FL, passed away Saturday, May 13, 2017. Born at home in Ferndale, MI, on May 12, 1923, she was the daughter of Raymond and E. Gladys (Milford) Golden. Mary Jane was a long-time resident of Alcona County. She and her husband, Robert, were beloved teachers in the Alcona Schools. They lovingly raised their children on the South End of Hubbard Lake, where, for many years, they owned and operated Peters Cove Resort. Mary Jane enjoyed education and learning. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Primary Education at Eastern Michigan University, and her Master’s Degree in Education at Wayne State University. Before retiring from teaching, she was working toward an Education Specialist Degree, taking coursed from Michigan State University and the University of Michigan. She enjoyed spending time on her beautiful lake, travelling, walking Fort Myers Beach, and reading. Children held a special place in her heart, as did her Yorkie, Izzy-Bella. Mary Jane was known for her sharp wit, intelligence, humor, and generosity. Mary Jane is survived by her children, Susan (Dave) Lindsay; Conway “Buster” (Cari) Peters; and Sally (Joel) Nowak, daughter-in-law, Dori Loomer, ten grandchildren, Travis (Tracie) Lindsay; Sana (Mike Mullally) Lindsay; Aaron (Christine) Loomer; Kathy Loomer; Sara (Brett) Holsworth; Russell (Jessica) Peters; Lauren (Scott) Kowalewsky; Monica Peters; Amy Nowak; and Emily Nowak, nine great grandchildren, Xander Nichols; Lilly and Catie Lindsay; John “Jack”, Jared, and Charles “Charlie” Loomer; and Madison, Bryson, and Jaiden Peters. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, and her son, John Loomer. There will be a memorial service Saturday, May 27, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Gillies Funeral Home in Lincoln. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM. Bishop Mark Fernandez will officiate. In the spirit of Mary Jane’s generosity, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Alcona County Baby Pantry, PO Box 36, Mikado, MI 48745.
