Dorothy M. Dewar, 86, of Alpena, passed away Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at home. Born September 25, 1922, to David and Agnes (Ostrom) Barber in Hawes Township, she was a lifelong resident of Alcona County. On May 24, 1941, she married Fred Dewar in Alpena, and they owned and operated a farm in Harrisville Township. In addition to working on the farm, and as a dedicated homemaker, Dorothy also worked at Harrisville Tool. She enjoyed the out of doors, especially gardening, hunting, and fishing. In retirement, Fred and Dorothy liked travelling and camping. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Alpena. Dorothy is survived by her daughter; Joyce Ann Bisanz of Alpena, four grandchildren; Mike (Cindy) Dewar, Deann (Gary) Cummins, Mark Bisanz, and Julie (Chad) Kirby, and seven great grandchildren; Kearsten, Tyler, Kaitlyn, Alyssa, Mikayla, Alex, and Zachary, and one sister; Leone Duncan of Ossineke. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years; Fred, on February 17, 2007, her son; Donald David Dewar on May 30, 2003, her son in law; Harold Bisanz on January 25, 2007, and her brother; Orville Barber. Mrs. Dewar is at Gillies Funeral Home, Lincoln where visitation will take place on Friday, August 28, 2009 from 5 until 9 pm. There will be a prayer service at the funeral home at 8:30 pm. Visitation will continue on Saturday, August 29, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 6891 Nicholson Hill Road, Ossineke, from 10:00 am until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 am. A luncheon will follow at the church. Burial will take place in Twin Lakes Cemetery, Lincoln, at 2:00 pm. Rev. Robert Mikkelson will officiate. Memorial donations are suggested to Hospice of Michigan, Northeastern Unit and St. Paul's Building Fund.
