Charles D. Flanders, 78, of Lincoln, passed away Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at Alpena Regional Medical Center. Born July 8, 1937, to Francis G. and Mary (Brownell) Flanders in Flint, MI, he was raised there and in Oscoda, MI. On August 26, 1959, he married Harriet Haskell in Oscoda. They were longtime residents of Battle Creek, where Charlie served numerous families as a funeral director. He was a member of the Lions Club in Battle Creek for over 25 years. He was a member of the Sunrise Side Woodcarvers, and taught woodcarving. He was an avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of Hope St. John’s Parish in Oscoda. Most of all, he was a fantastic father, who taught his kids to be good people. Charles is survived by his wife, Harriet, one daughter, Kimberly G. Flanders of Battle Creek, two sons, Charles Mark (Donna) Flanders of Battle Creek, and Matthew B. (Janice) Flanders of Ceresco, two grandchildren, Mallory (Joshua) Davis, and Zachary (Heather) Flanders, one great granddaughter, Adleigh Davis, and one brother, Francis B. (Susan) Flanders. He was preceded in death by his sister, Susan Flanders-Klein, daughter-in-law, Debora Flanders, and sister-in-law Barbara Flanders. Cremation arrangements were made through Gillies Funeral Home, Lincoln. Memorial donations are suggested to the Alcona Humane Society or Hospice of Michigan.
