Robert W. Smylie

Robert W. Smylie, 93, of Spruce, passed away Monday, May 11, 2015 at Tendercare Alpena. Born May 24, 1921, to Roy and Doris (Huber) Smylie in Detroit, MI, he was a longtime resident. Robert served in the U.S. Army Air Force during WWII. After the war he returned to Detroit, where he worked as a police officer for 20 years. On April 4, 1941, he married Virginia Shannon. In 1973, they moved to Spruce, where he enjoyed fishing. Robert is survived by two sons, Patrick (Judy) Smylie of Spruce and Dennis (Helen) Smylie of Margate Fl, three grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and one sister, Joyce Heithecker. Private graveside services have been held at the Hubbard Lake Cemetery. Arrangements were made through Gillies Funeral Home in Lincoln.
