Doris Mae Emerson, 91, of Glennie, passed away Saturday, March 21, 2015 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born March 24, 1923, in Ann Arbor to Conrad George and Clara Marie (Hoeft) Ganzhorn. Doris was raised in Ann Arbor, and worked as a manager at a finance company there. Doris met Jerry B. Emerson and married him on August 7, 1942 then followed him to where he was stationed when he was drafted and served in WWII. She served as a civilian employee on the base that Jerry was stationed at until Jerry was to be shipped out. After the war, Doris and Jerry returned to Ann Arbor where Doris helped her husband with their building contracting and raised a family. They moved in 1972 to Cheboygan where they continued the construction business and Doris owned and operated the Fort Henry Motel. They moved to Glennie in 1986 after selling the motel and retiring. Doris was a member of the Glennie United Methodist Church, and served as treasurer to the church’s women’s group. Doris enjoyed researching her and her husband’s family ancestry, and they travelled all over the U.S. gathering information and hiking and fishing after retirement. She also loved playing cards, gardening, and her grandchildren. She is survived by two daughters, Vicki Lynn (Terry) Good of Glennie, and Susan Janet Emerson of Cheboygan, one son, Gary (Marilyn) Emerson of Howell, seven grandchildren, Melissa (Duane) Payne, Robin (Justin) Littlefield, Amber Good, Jason (Cori) Willis, Jessica (Paul) Konkolesky, Krista (Mark) Lutz, and Andrew (Lora) Emerson, 13 great grandchildren, one great great granddaughter, and one brother, Donald Ganzhorn. She was preceded in death by her husband on August 26, 2011, and her brother, Conrad Ganzhorn. Visitation will be Tuesday, March 24, 2015 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Glennie United Methodist Church. Visitation will continue at the church on Wednesday, March 25 from 10:00 AM until the funeral service at 11:00 AM. Rev. Calvin Emerson will officiate. Burial will be in the Glennie Cemetery.
