Dixie Lee Nelson

Dixie L. Nelson, 74, of Lincoln, passed away Sunday, June 15, 2014, at Alpena Regional Medical Center. Born February 17, 1940 to Glenn and Mildred (Mack) Bauer in Saginaw, she was a longtime resident. In March of 1962 she married Gerald Nelson in Saginaw. A devoted homemaker, she enjoyed NASCAR racing, and boating on the weekends. Dixie and Gerald spent summers in Lincoln, and owned and operated Northwoods Bar from 1972 until 1978. He preceded her in death on October 2, 1993. Dixie moved to Lincoln permanently in 1996. She was a member of the Ossineke Eagles Aerie #3762. She is survived by two sons, Mike (Stacy) Nelson of Knoxville, TN, and Patrick (Tammy) Nelson of Lincoln, four grandchildren, Katelyn, Brendan, Brett, and Davis Nelson, and her longtime friend and companion, John Mitchell of Hubbard Lake. She was preceded in death by her parents, her stepfather, Bill Ackerman, and her brother, Nate Bauer. Mrs. Nelson is at Gillies Funeral Home, Lincoln, where friends may call on Wednesday, June 18, from 4 until the funeral service at 8 pm. Burial will be in Twin Lakes Cemetery, Lincoln.
