Joe Kalinich

Joe Kalinich, 98, of Hillman, died Sunday, January 19, 2014 at Hillman’s Haven. He was born October 24, 1915 in Glennie to Nick and Josephine (Yanish) Kalinich. Raised in Glennie, Joe moved to Detroit, where he attended trade school. He served in the Army in WWII from 1941 until 1946. Returning to Glennie in 1948, he was employed at Wurtsmith Air Force Base of Oscoda as an electrician, retiring in 1980. On August 11, 1972 Joe married Betty Ott in Syracuse Indiana. They lived in Glennie, later moving to Alpena, then moving to Hillman. He is survived by his wife, and one step daughter, Karen (Terry) Griffith of Syracuse, IN, a stepson Steven Koentz of Elkhart IN and three step grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Smith, Annie Fisher and Lena Andres and four brothers, Steven, Daniel, George and Peter Kalanich. Visitation will be Saturday, January 25, 2014 at Gillies Funeral Home Lincoln, from 1:00 P.M. until the funeral at 3:00 P.M. Spring burial will be held at Maple Ridge Cemetery, Barton City.
